According to
WEEI.com's Rob Bradford, free agent catcher
Russell Martin feels Boston is "definitely a place to consider" in 2015. The 31-year-old Martin had a monster 2014 in Pittsburgh—.290 BA, 11 HRs, .832 OPS, .401 OBP—and is likely to be given a qualifying offer by the Bucs ($15.3 million). Martin hits right-handed (the Sox would prefer a lefty option at catcher) and probably wants to catch upwards of 120 games (he caught 111 in 2014). Boston would
prefer that
Christian Vazquez do the bulk of the 2015 catching. Still, Martin (who almost wore
Carmine Hose in 2011 before
The Evil Ones swooped in) would be a nice solid option behind the plate.
