In addition to their interest in fired Yankee hitting coach
Kevin Long, reports are surfacing that the Red Sox are eyeing a few
other candidates—including former catcher (and Worcester native)
Rich Gedman for the job.
Another Massachusetts native—Somerville's
Paul Sorrento—is also on the short list, along with current minor league hitting coach
Tim Hyers. Sorrento is currently minor league hitting coordinator for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Apparently, the team has decided not to consider existing assistant hitting coach
Victor Rodriguez for the new position. Former 2011 Pawtucket hitting coach and ex-San Francisco Giant
Chili Davis has also been mentioned in multiple reports.
