While most fans want the Red Sox to concentrate their off-season spending on starting pitching,
David Ortiz—understandably—urges another priority. Big Papi says he needs offensive help in the order—one which tallied just 4.1 runs per game over the last two months. Said Ortiz,
"Offensively we're still poor...We need some thunder." Boston did add some muscle with
Yoenis Cespedes,
Rusney Castillo and
Allen Craig—but it's
left-handed power (beyond Ortiz) that is lacking. On other matters, when pressed about his eventual retirement, Ortiz was non-committal:
"I'm not going to say that I'm going to retire, but I'm not going to say that I have three, four, five more years." The Boston DH is signed through 2015.
