Shane Victorino will undergo season-ending lower back surgery today to correct a problem that has limited him to just 30 games this year. After the outfielder received a corroborating second opinion about his back on Monday, he resigned himself to the inevitability of the procedure. Victorino was a major cog in the 2013 World Series Championship wheel and is still signed with the club for another year. The 33-year old's absence will allow Yoenis Cespedes to take over in right field—and give Allen Craig (when he returns from the DL) a clear shot at left field. We wish Victorino a speedy recovery.
