Yoenis Cespedes apparently doesn't like brush-back pitches. When 300-pound Reds reliever
Jonathan Broxton sailed a near-100 MPH fastball at the head of the Red Sox OF, he took the best revenge possible. Cespedes launched the next fastball 433-feet over the center field fence—giving Boston a lead that would end up in
a 3-2 win. Said Cespedes, '
"A lot of times when pitchers throw high and tight, they think the batter backs off and gets flustered. That's not how I am. I get more focused." After a shaky first,
Joe Kelly went six innings giving up just two earned runs.
Xander Bogaerts went 2-4 with the other Sox RBI. Boston has now won three of their last four and wrap up the road trip today with an afternoon get-away.
