This move was expected. Unable to trade
Mike Carp by the July 31st non-waiver trade deadline,
the Red Sox today designated him for assignment. The 1B/OF was getting almost no playing time this season, after a stellar campaign in 2013 (.296 AVG./9 HR/43 RBIs/.885 OPS). This year, Carp was hitting only .198 in 42 games—and had requested a trade. The 28-year old will likely catch on with another club soon—or possibly be traded at a later date if he clears waivers. We wish him the best.
