Ah, what might have been! According to Scott Lauber of
The Boston Herald,
the Red Sox fell 'just' $5 million shy of landing new mega-star Jose Abreu. The White Sox slugger—who escaped
Fidel Castro's Prison Island—inked a six-year, $68 million deal with Chicago. The 27-year old currently has 27 HRs and 69 RBIs in his rookie campaign. Did we mention he's leading the league in slugging (.611)? Reportedly, the Red Sox planned to play Abreu at third—keeping
Mike Napoli at first. As one team wag said,
"We would have figured out a spot for 27 home runs." Ya think?
