The Empire's prized rookie sensation,
Masahiro Tanaka, will be out of action for
at least six weeks due to
a partial ligament tear in his pitching elbow. While
Brian Cashman is downplaying the potential of
Tommy John surgery, it's likely that's the eventual end game. The stop-gap is a six-week "rehab" program. Said Cashman,
"If we knew today that the best course of action was Tommy John surgery, despite the name and the amount of the investment, we would be doing Tommy John surgery." Manager
Joe Girardi also towed the party line,
"Guys have had success doing this and we’ll keep our fingers crossed. That gives you reason for optimism that he’s going to pitch again for us this year." Uh-huh.
