This is what we've been waiting for from
Clay Buchholz. The pre-injury snappy breaking stuff, the nasty cutter, the poise on the mound—the
results. The tall righty fanned 12 Astros, giving up just three hits on the way to
a complete-game shutout of Houston, 11-0. There was no doubt about the dominance of Buchholz from start to finish—he tossed seven pitches in the
first and seven in the
ninth. The offense was keyed by (who else?)
Brock 'Babe' Holt who collected
five hits—including a lead-off home run to start the scoring (he's now hitting .327).
Christian Vazquez had two more hits, along with
Stephen Drew,
Dustin Pedroia and
Daniel Nava. The Sox return to action after the All-Star Break at home against the Royals on Friday night.
