Jeff 'Monty Hall' Luhnow |
For the most part, Houston Astros GM
Jeff Luhnow is considered one of the brighter minds in baseball. However, based on his silly 'Fantasy League' demands for acquiring
Bud Norris last year, you really have to wonder. According to a leaked report from
Anobin.com (apparently the sports version of
WikiLeaks or
Edward Snowden), Luhnow texted Red Sox GM
Ben Cherington asking for a mix of the following:
Xander Bogaerts,
Garin Cecchini,
Allen Webster, and
Jackie Bradley, Jr.—
for Norris! What was Luhnow smoking? Cherington texted back that the Red Sox
"couldn't include Boegarts, Cecchini, Webster, or Bradley but thought they had enough depth to still make an appealing package." Then, Luhnow texted back and
"asked if they would consider a package around Barnes and Owens." What? Eventually, Cherington offered
Ryan Lavarnway or
Deven Marrero for Norris, but, as Luhnow texted,
"We said no.". Wow!
