The contract signed by George Herman 'Babe' Ruth and the Boston Red Sox in 1918 was sold at auction last night for $1.02 million. The contract itself was for $5,000—huge compensation for Ruth's fifth season in Carmine Hose. The team—led by Ruth's pitching—would capture another World Series Championship in 1918 (their
fifth of the only fifteen Fall Classics that had ever been played).
Goldin Auctions of New Jersey made the sale—which exceeds the price ($996,000) for the document that sent Ruth to the Evil Ones.
