Ken Rosenthal of
FOXSports.com suggests that Red Sox starter
John Lackey might retire after this year—rather than play for the $500,000 MLB minimum that kicked in when he had
Tommy John surgery. In typical Rosenthal fashion, Lackey is not directly
quoted as saying this, but you have to assume that
someone in the Lackey entourage slipped it to the diminutive, bow-tied journalist. The report goes on to advocate for a restructured two-year deal from the Red Sox that—according to Rosenthal—Lackey "genuinely deserves".
Ben Cherington might disagree. After all, at the end of the 2016 season, Lackey'll be 38.
