The sad case of
Daniel Bard gets even sadder. The Texas Rangers have announced that
they've released the former Sox set-up man—effectively admitting that
they can't figure out what's wrong with him, either. The now 28-year old Bard was dominant as the eight-inning 'appetizer' to
Jonathan Papelbon's 'main course'—routinely hitting 100-MPH. Then, he was mishandled in his attempt to become a starter and never regained the confidence that made him so effective. Bard faced just 18 batters for Class A Hickory—
walking nine,
hitting seven and
retiring just two. Hopefully,
somebody will give Bard another shot.
