At first glance, the bottom of last night's Red Sox order did not look encouraging. In fact, the 5-9 hitters went 7-17 (.412) and joined with
David Ortiz and
Brock Holt to provide enough offense for a solid
Jon Lester performance in
a 5-2 win over Cleveland. Holt's two-out, two-run double padded the lead that had been establish by Papi's 15th HR (a two-run shot to center). Lester hurled into the eighth inning, giving up just one earned run. Defensively,
Jackie Bradley Jr. showed why it might be acceptable to keep his talent in center field despite hitting slumps. The rookie turned in a brilliant inning-ending double play in the seventh—leaping to make a catch and firing to first to nab old friend
Mike Aviles. All in all, a solid showing that needs to be repeated six more times on this homestand.
