The Red Sox could only muster three hits against
Max Scherzer and two Tiger relievers,
falling ignominiously, 1-0 at a rain-soaked Fenway.
Jon Lester went five innings giving up just one first-inning run. A 47-minute rain delay did not seem to affect Scherzer, as the 2013
Cy Young winner seemed even stronger after the break. Boston got lone hits from
David Ortiz,
Mike Napoli and
David Ross on the way to their sub-.500 fourth place position.
