WEEI's Dennis & Callahan Morning Show, Red Sox President and CEO
Larry Lucchino stated that the team wants to re-sign lefty starter
Jon Lester, adding "make no mistake about it." The issue was raised in light of a new
BusinessWeek article stressing the desire of the team to avoid expensive, long-term contracts. Lester reportedly rebuffed a four-year, $70 million offer from the Red Sox—presumably assuming he can double that total in the free agent market at the end of the year. Lucchino also revealed that disgraced Clippers owner
Donald Sterling once asked him if his Padres ownership group would be willing to sell him the baseball club.
