Mr. Salty Gets His Ring |
Now that we have
another catcher with a last name that's a challenge to spell, it might be easy to forget about our
last one:
Jarrod Saltalamacchia. But Salty is faring pretty well in the land of the incredibly shrinking fan base (21,992 last night). So far for the Miami Marlins, he's hit .284 with 5 HRs and an on-base percentage of .404. And, while it's still early, his .554 slugging percentage is the highest of his career. Not too shabby. And the consensus is that he's settled down a
very young pitching staff—including potential flake-bomb
José Fernández (who has a 1.59 ERA through 6 starts). Salty, who spent a little over three seasons in
Carmine Hose, just got his World Series ring last Sunday, and said of it,
"It’s awesome. It’s better than I thought it was going to be. It’s really cool." Enjoy, Salty.
