Red Sox-Rays Kick Off Battle For AL East Cellar
Thank goodness it's a 'tight race' in the AL East. Only 3.5 games separate the leaders from the also-rans. Nevertheless, it's a little weird—no matter what time of year—to have the Rays and Red Sox meeting to determine the cellar-dweller in the division. Having missed the opportunity of a sweep (and a .500 record) in The Great White North, Boston returns home with the ignominious distinctions of having given up the most runs in the AL East (120) and the worst run differential (-15). This is a team that is playing well below its potential—the exact opposite of 2013. Where the heck are the Houston Astros when you really need them? Anyway, John Lackey will face-off against old "friend" Erik Bedard tonight at Fenway.
