Mets 'True New Yorkers' Promo Tweaks Empire
You gotta love the Mets—even though they stole the 1986 World Series from us. At least they have a heart—unlike the cold, soul-less automatons on 161st Street. To enhance the differences between the two ball clubs, the Mets have introduced a very cool promotion—True New Yorkers. An open letter from six legendary Mets—Doc Gooden, Cleon Jones, Keith Hernandez, Jerry Koosman, Ed Charles and (Millbury's) Ron Darling makes reference to the grittier nature of Mets championships. Says the letter, "The victory you earn is sweeter than the victory you're give." I think we can all see the subtext on that puppy. It goes on, "When we've won, we've proved through the way we did it that True New Yorkers are Mets fans." Booh-yeah! Fans are then asked to add their name to the list of "True New Yorkers". Nice going, Metropolitans!
