Today,
Stephen Drew turns 31 years of age. For his birthday, his Uber-Agent
Scott Boras sent him a real stink-bomb.
Boras told ESPN that his shortstop free agent (along with his other jobless client, Kendrys Morales) will wait until June if need be to get the contract they want. Said Boras,
"Like any players, they want to play baseball. But they're also looking at the long-term aspect of their careers. This system has placed them not in free agency, but it's placed them in a jail." Poor babies! This, in a week when Drew himself reportedly expressed regret that he didn't take Boston's $14.1 million qualifying offer. Also this week, the injury to
Jose Iglesias (possibly threatening his whole season) opened up a huge window for Drew in
MoTown. Thanks to his agent, however, even
that door might be closed—at least until June.
