Former Red Sox shortstop
Jose Iglesias revealed that he has stress fractures in both of his shins—and it
could result in him missing the entire 2014 season. Boston traded Iglesias last July in a three-way deal that netted
Jake Peavy. Said Iglesias,
"It's bad news for me and bad news for the team as well." Asked if he intends to return this year, he
did state,
"Absolutely. But for now, my goal is to get healthy, get rid of this, because the pain is really bad. I just want to get rid of it and come back 100 percent." The slick fielder will see a specialist today in Colorado and have a better sense of what his status will be. In the meantime, the Tigers are scrambling for an alternative—they could sign free-agent
Stephen Drew, trade for a veteran like
Jimmy Rollins, or promote internally.
