It's true that their 2014 infield situation is a disaster waiting to happen, but
The Bronx Embalmers are in even worse shape for 2015.
Derek Jeter is retiring (have you heard?), and while
Mark Teixeira is signed through 2016, you get the feeling that
Brian Cashman wishes he wasn't. So,
The Pinstriped Posers are looking at
Mr. Text Message,
Brian Roberts,
Kelly Johnson and whole lot of bailing wire to comprise their 2015 infield. That may be why they are casting about for trades that can get them respectable players for this
and next season. There are rumors that they may deal some of their catching depth (
Francisco Cervelli,
John Ryan Murphy,
Gary Sanchez) for Chicago 3B
Gordon Beckham (who can bend it with the best of them). There's also talk that they may get Arizona SS
Didi Gregorious in a deal. In any event, they are one 'old guy injury' away from facing infield calamity
this year—and, thankfully, the future looks just as bleak.
