Red Sox GM
Ben Cherington continued to play his cards close to the vest on the team's interest in free-agent shortstop
Stephen Drew. On
Sirius/XM Radio today, Cherington told
Jim Bowden that while the
dialogue is still alive,
Boston does not expect to sign Drew before Spring Training. For all intents and purposes, Cherington is saying loud and clear: 'go find a multi-year deal if you can. If not, talk to me in March or April about a one-year deal where you play
multiple infield positions.' Uber-Agent
Scott Boars has really blown it for Drew—unless he bamboozles some poor GM into giving Drew two or three years—with an outrageous one-year opt-out. Good luck.
