Had he lived,
Tony Conigliaro would be 69 years old today. Some of us can still recall the thrill of seeing a local kid make good with the hometown team. Who knows where a full career would have led him? Before he was injured on that black day in 1967, Tony knocked out
104 home runs—
the quickest in history to 100 dingers. After Friday,
August 18, 1967, it was never the same. Today we should remember Tony as that young, vibrant kid from Lynn, Mass. who allowed us to vicariously live out the dream of playing for our beloved Red Sox.
