There are some guys in major league baseball you just
have to like—even though they've never donned Carmine Hose.
Reed Johnson has always been one of those players for us—whether toiling for the Blue Jays, Braves, Cubs or Dodgers. He's always been a pesky hitter (.282 lifetime), a tough out and he always seemed to be in the middle of big plays. He was an irritant—but the kind of irritant you'd want on your team. As
NESN's Ricky Doyle points out,
the 37-year old Johnson might just be the perfect fit for the 2014 Red Sox and their outfield needs. Adding a guy who can play all three outfield positions credibly
and hit lefties well (.311 career) is a rare commodity. Plus, his personality would fit right in with the bearded sub-culture that is the Red Sox.
