Major League Baseball has announced that metal detection devices will be in place at every one of the 30 MLB ballparks starting with the 2015 season. Either walk-through magnetometers or hand-held metal detectors will be mandatory. The Seattle Mariners announced that they would implement the enhanced security measures in the
2014 season. Said an MLB spokesperson,
"This procedure, which results from MLB's continuing work with the Department of Homeland Security to standardize security practices across the game, will be in addition to bag checks that are now uniform throughout MLB."
