According to Jeff Passan of
YAHOO! Sports,
free-agent first-baseman Mike Napoli is looking to 'shop around'—despite reportedly getting a multi-year offer from the Red Sox. Napoli has also recently stated that he wants to stay in Boston, but apparently he can't pass up the chance to get a better offer elsewhere. This news makes it pretty obvious that Napoli won't accept the qualifying offer made by the Red Sox. After being diagnosed with avascular necrosis in each hip, Boston pared back its original three-year offer and signed Napoli to an incentive-laden one-year deal for 2013. Napoli stroked 23 HRs and played stellar defense in his first full season at first base—making him a pleasant surprise in
fantasy baseball. Most analysts project that Napoli will land a three-year deal in the range of $40 million.
