Free-agent-to-be
Jacoby Ellsbury will have an MRI on his left hand—which has been swollen and bruised throughout the post-season. Ellsbury has been unfairly labeled as "soft" by critics—despite the fact that all of his past injuries were inflicted by others (
Adrian Beltre for one) and exacerbated by the
'not-ready-for-prime-time' Red Sox medical team. Clearly, playing through an injury that featured a bruise up to his forearm—
and playing well—should put to rest any of these baseless charges. It's unclear what impact this injury will have on the center-fielder's pending free agency—or the continuing interest by the Sox.
