If the Red Sox decide to let
Jarrod Saltalamacchia walk via free agency (and his benching during Games 5 and 6 the World Series suggests that might happen), they
could go after free-agent catcher
Brian McCann. This would result in the reunion of two ex-Brave backstops—McCann and current Red Sox catcher
David Ross. Salty, at 28 years of age, will likely get a slew of offers from teams—especially after he upgraded his offense this year (.273, 14 HRs). He improved defensively, but seemed to tire at the end due to an excessive workload. He was also a big part of the clubhouse 'chemistry' that made this team so unique. The 29-year old McCann had a so-so year, hitting just .256 with 20 HRs in only 102 games.
