David Ortiz took
David Price deep
twice,
Jacoby Ellsbury had three hits and
Dustin Pedroia knocked in three runs to pace the Red Sox to
a 7-4 win over Tampa and a commanding 2-0 ALDS series lead. Boston went to the plate in an uncharacteristically aggressive mode against Price and built an early 5-1 lead on the Rays' ace. But
John Lackey was generally ineffective and allowed Tampa to crawl back and make it a game at 5-3. It was 6-4 in the eighth when Ortiz unloaded a monster shot deep into the right field grandstands to give Boston a more comfortable three-run bulge and chase Price.
Koji Uehara took it from there—striking out two in another 1-2-3 ninth. Boston now heads to Tampa and will send
Clay Buchholz to the hill on Monday to go for the series sweep.
