Tigers manager Jim Leyland retired today at an 11:30 AM news conference in Detroit. Reportedly, Leyland informed his team of the decision on the flight back from Boston after the Tigers were eliminated by the Red Sox in the ALCS, 4 games to 2. Leyland had a Hall of Fame-worthy career winning the World Series in 1997 with the Marlins, and winning two AL Pennants with the Tigers (2006, 2012). He may be the last of the 'old school' managers and was the epitome of class throughout his career.
