This could get habit-forming. The Red Sox scored nine runs off the Yankee bullpen in the seventh and eighth to take
a satisfying 12-8 win in the Bronx. The big blow was a two-out, two-strike, off-the-top-of-the-right-field-wall grand slam by
Mike Napoli that tied the game. Then,
Shane Victorino did his thing again—a game winning two-run HR. The late offensive resuscitation allowed us to forget about an abysmal
Felix Doubront start—just 3.2 innings and 6 earned runs given up. But, this team has been able to overcome
that bad outing and another shaky one by
Jake Peavy on Thursday. The Red Sox bullpen gave up just two runs in 4.2 innings; their Yankee counterparts gave up nine runs over three innings. Five Red Sox hitters had multiple-hit games in the 15-hit attack—including
Will Middlebrooks who clouted his 14th HR. As good as beating the Yankees is, even better news came from out West, where Tampa lost
again—giving Boston a 7.5 game division lead.
