A wild pitch by
Brandon Workman in the bottom of the ninth brought home the winning run for
The Evil Ones in a tough 4-3 loss.
Will Middlebrooks had tied the game with an opposite-field HR in the top of the ninth against—you guessed it—
Mariano Rivera (his 16th career blown save against
The Carmine Hose). Boston had an early 1-0 lead, but
Jon Lester could not hold the slim advantage, giving up a total of three earned runs in a gutsy eight-inning outing. The loss shaved Boston's AL East lead to 7.5 games.
