| Re-Upped For 2014 |
According to multiple reports,
the Red Sox have all but publicly admitted that they will pick up the option on Jon Lester's contract for 2014 ($13 million). Lester is finishing up the last year of a five-year, $30 million deal. The 29-year old Lester has recently begun to re-establish his "ace" credentials—pitching just shy of 200 innings so far this year and striking out 7.4 batters a game. He has proven to be a warrior over his career and among the best competitors in the American League. Despite some blips in recent years, this is the right thing to do.
