The Red Sox moved one step closer to clinching home field advantage throughout the playoffs with
a 12-3 clobbering of the Orioles. Boston got two three-run homers (
David Ortiz,
Daniel Nava) and just missed a third (
Jarrod Saltalamacchia) and sprinted out to an early 8-0 lead for
Clay Buchholz. The righty went seven innings, giving up three earned runs for his 12th win of the season.
Jonny Gomes hit a solo HR,
Stephen Drew tripled and
Dustin Pedroia had three hits in the Boston rout.
The Carmine Hose now have 97 wins and need just one more win or A's loss to clinch best record in the AL.
