John Lackey was about as good as he's been all year—no-hitting the Orioles for 6 1/3 innings in
tonight's 3-1 Red Sox win. The right-hander secured a complete game win giving up just two hits, and striking out eight. Both the no-no and the shutout were ended with a mammoth homerun off the bat of
Adam Jones in the seventh. Boston started the scoring in the second inning with a two-run HR by
Stephen Drew, with
Dustin Pedroia (2-4) knocking in the other run. The win assured Boston of at least a Wild Card playoff spot, but they have designs on bigger things. Tampa's loss tonight means the magic Number to clinch the AL East is just
one.
