Just as the world was looking so bright for the Red Sox, they got the bad news that center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury may be on the shelf with an injured right foot. An MRI in Boston today showed "swelling and inflammation" in the navicular bone of his right foot. Ellsbury may be sent to a doctor in Denver for a second opinion. This is bigger than a "day-to-day" situation for Ellsbury and is probably the worst news possible as the team faces the last 19 games of the season. Jackie Bradley, Jr. was called up to start at Yankee Stadium today.
