We're
sure that
Brock Holt and
Brandon Snyder are nice guys. They probably remember
Mother's Day every year. But
more and more voices are being raised in support of bringing up Red Sox Uber-Prospect
Xander Bogaerts to play third base, and to do it
now. The other alternative is to bring back a majors-tested
Will Middlebrooks, but Bogaerts has demonstrated that he is more worthy of the call-up. Consider the stats for the 20-year old phenom: In 49 AAA games, he's hitting .275 with 8 HRs and 28 RBIs. At AA Portland earlier this year, he hit .306 with 6 HRs and 35 RBIs. His overall OPS in minor league action (now a healthy sample size of 367 games) is .862. How about maturity?
Within this year, he has honed his plate discipline so that his 'strike-out per AB' rate dropped from 23.2% at AA down to 19.2% at AAA. The kid is ready—bring him up and stick him at third as soon as possible.
