While the Red Sox enjoyed an off day on Monday, they actually picked up ground in the AL East race. In a make-up snow-out game, the
Kansas City Royals smoked the Rays 11-1 and pushed Tampa to 1.5 games behind
The Carmine Hose.
Jeremy Hellickson failed to get out of the fifth inning for the fifth straight time and KC got home runs from
Salvador Perez and
Billy Butler, as
Jeremy Guthrie got his 13th win. The Red Sox open up a nine-game homestand tonight and have just 30 games left in the season. If they go just .500 the rest of the way, they will come away with 92 wins—23 wins better than their disastrous 2012.
