the New York Mets have signed former Red Sox starter Daisuke Matsuzaka. Dice-K was granted his unconditional release by the Cleveland Indians earlier this week. With all of the injuries the Mets have suffered to their pitching staff (
Jeremy Hefner,
Jenrry Mejia), it appears that Matsuzaka will be slotted right into the major league rotation. Alas, we have no games against the Metropolitans this year. In six seasons with the Red Sox, Matsuzaka was 50-37 with an ERA of 4.52. He struck out 609 batters over that span and—we should all remember—won a big World Series game in 2007 (knocking in two runs to boot). We wish him the best in Flushing Meadows.
