Next Year's Look? |
Ken Rosenthal of
FOXSports.com points out that
the Seattle Mariners may be the logical landing spot for soon-to-be free agent Jacoby Ellsbury. First, Ellsbury is
from the northwest (Madras, OR). Second, Mariner GM
Jack Zduriencik struck out in his hot pursuit of
Josh Hamilton last winter (which we're sure he's OK with). Most importantly, the M's are flush with cash to spend on a big-time free agent like Jacoby—with just $33.257 million committed to payroll for 2014. Ellsbury could lead-off, play Gold Glove-level defense in CF and be a huge drawing card to the fan base. It all makes sense—need, cash, opportunity, prodigal son.
