The Red Sox staked
John Lackey to an early 1-0 lead on an unearned run. Unfortunately, Lackey gave back a run in each of the next three innings. Despite finding his groove later, Boston could not recover from Lackey's early stumbles,
losing to Kansas City, 4-3. The Carmine Hose ended up losing three of four to the Royals, but maintained their 3-game lead in the AL East. Lackey ended up going seven innings and yielding four earned runs. The offense was led by
Stephen Drew and
Ryan Lavarnway (2 RBIs).
