The A-Debut—July 8, 1994 At Fenway Park |
There's an odd Boston connection to the A-Rod Saga. On July 8, 1994, 18-year old
Alex Rodriguez made his MLB debut in a game against the Red Sox at Fenway Park. The Red Sox won the game 4-3—with
Tom Brunansky and
John Valentin homering for the good guys. A-Rod went 0-3, but he
did have three assists at shortstop. He was the most highly touted prospect of the Mariners, but he ended up with only 54 ABs in 1994 and only 142 in 1995. It was in 1996 that he took off—hitting
.358 with 36 HRs and 123 RBIs. Ah, what could have been.
