While he was not suspended by Major League Baseball, Red Sox designated hitter
David Ortiz was slapped with a "significant" fine for obliterating the cover of the dugout phone in Baltimore. After disputing a 3-0 strike call, and then striking out, Ortiz went into a bizarre rage in the Red Sox dugout splintering his bat on the bullpen phone. The scariest part was the fact that
Dustin Pedroia was inches away from the action—having just signed a multi-year contract days earlier.
