Cody Ross has a chip on his shoulder as he returns to Fenway Park
this weekend as a member of the Arizona Diamondbacks. He thinks the Red
Sox low-balled him once he let it be known (during the 2012 season)
that he wanted to come back and play for the Carmine Hose. He
understands that this is part of the "business side" of baseball,
but you can still hear a little vengeance in his words:
"I expressed interest in going back there during the season, so maybe
they thought they had me as far as that goes...they’re trying to get the
cheapest and I’m trying to get the best." He took the best offer made
to him: three years and $26 million from the Diamondbacks. But you have
to think he will be salivating again at the sight of the Green Monster—a
left-field tailor-made for his swing. Will he get extra-pumped for the
week-end series? You decide:
"Absolutely. Any time I play against one of
my old teams that necessarily didn’t want me back, I put in a little
bit of extra concentration." Get ready for some bat flips and some
styling.
