Stop us if you've heard this before:
Clay Buchholz is still not pitching in actual major league games —although he did throw 46 pitches in a "simulated" game yesterday at AT&T Park in San Francisco. Does that mean he'll be throwing in anger soon for
The Carmine Hose? Nobody really knows. He'll apparently need another one or two of these ridiculous simulations (yesterday he "threw" while
David Ross,
Mike Napoli, and
Xander Bogaerts stood in the batter's box and
watched him). Then, he needs at least two "rehab" starts in the minors (
maybe starting on Sunday)—although at this pace there's a good chance that all Red Sox minor league affiliates will be finished with their seasons before Clay can hurl for them. This whole debacle is a mismanaged mess by the Red Sox, and they're starting to pay the price for not having their (potentially) most dominant pitcher in the rotation.
