The Beard To Boston? |
Reports have surfaced that former Giants closer
Brian Wilson is ready to audition his services to teams in late July or early August. The wacky bearded one—born in Winchester, Massachusetts and raised in Londonderry, New Hampshire—has been rehabbing in Hawaii (of course) after his
second Tommy John surgery. Given the status of the Red Sox bullpen, it might make sense to at least take a
look at Wilson. 'The Beard' has logged 171 saves in his career, and, according to
ESPN's Buster Olney, has the Giants, Dodgers and Angels on his audition list (while others have cited the Braves as an additional suitor).
Ben Cherington must be wondering whether
Koji Uehara can hold up as closer for the full year. Maybe its time to bring Wilson back to New England in some sort of bullpen role—if not closer at the moment. You gotta believe Red Sox fans would love him.
