This Coach's Box Sponsored By Orange Julius!
As you've surely noticed, NESN has way too many "drop-in" ads during Red Sox broadcasts. Everything from home runs, to strike zones, to pitching changes is sponsored by a shampoo or an insurance company or a windshield replacement outfit. You can even hear the annoyance in Jerry Remy's voice when he has to say something like: "This batting glove adjustment is brought to you by Shifty Of Methuen—for all your insurance adjusting needs". But, how would you like to be a Blue Jays fan, as the very field on which your beloved team plays is now besmirched with advertising? Rogers Sportsnet is now superimposing ads onto the playing surface at SkyDome (spare me the Rogers Centre moniker). Now, you might say that we're the proverbial pot calling the kettle black—since we obviously host a bunch of ads on FenwayNation. We do not, however, embed ads into the content of our site (as many bloggers do). There has to be some degree of sanctity in the substance of things. And in baseball! This is another example of a toothless (perhaps literally) 'baseball commissioner' who's afraid to confront his buddy owners and defend the best interests of the game.
