According to Ken Rosenthal of
FOXSports.com,
the Red Sox are one of 12 teams expressing "intense" interest in acquiring third baseman Michael Young from the Phillies. In fact, Boston sent
Allard Baird (VP of Player Personnel) to scout Young in the three games prior to the All-Star Break. Reports suggest that the bidding may come down to the Red Sox and
The Empire—with New York planning to play Young at
both first and third. Of course, the Red Sox have a
far deeper farm system to tempt Philly with than do the
Bronx Embalmers. Young is hitting .288 this year and is eligible for free agency after this season.
As we wrote way back on June 24th, this deal for Young makes sense.
