He's being groomed as a starter in the minors, but
Brandon Workman has been called to The Show to fill a growing void in the Red Sox bullpen. Workman has hurled for both Portland (AA) and Pawtucket (AAA) this year and compiled an impressive 8-2 record with a 3.21 ERA. The last time he worked steadily out of the 'pen was during his college years at Texas, but he seems ready for the challenge. Said Workman,
"The preparation and getting ready will be different. I’ll have to adjust to it. This year I’ve been more consistent and able to locate all my pitches. I’m throwing strikes. As of now that’s my plan to keep throwing what I throw." His mid-90s fastball, curve, cutter and change should be fun to watch for the rest of the year.
